For Legal Reasons...

Taken from Transport for London’s online “Journey history” feature, which allows you to see where you’ve been on your Oyster card, at what time, and how much it cost (by the way, it’s a fantastic feature - except for this).

For legal reasons we are only able to display up to eight weeks of data.

Allow me to translate: for legal reasons, we can only show you where you’ve been for the past eight weeks. Jeez, just imagine what would happen if I could see where I travelled to nine weeks ago…

I bought a Samsung SM913N monitor for £160 from Ebuyer on the 5th December 2005

I make that two years ago – if they are deleting it, they’re bigger fools than they look.

It is probably something to do with them not being ‘allowed’ to keep the data after this. You are of course not the only one with access to this data, and so they have to ‘remove’ it after a certain period of time. Wonder whether it is accidentally kept in their backups etc…

The UK Data Protection Act states “Personal information may be kept for no longer than is necessary.” I’m guessing longer than 8 weeks isn’t deemed necessary…?
